AIGLES COLLECT 17 HITS IN WIN OVER BOULDERS

July 3 Recap

Trois-Rivieres 17, Rockland 4 – Box Score

After falling behind 4-2 through three innings of play, Trois-Rivieres scored nine runs over the next two to take command of the game and beat Rockland by the score of 17-4.

The Aigles pounded out 17 hits in the contest with five players having multi-hit games. Trois-Rivieres 2B David Glaude (pictured) led the way going 2-for-5 with a home run, four runs scored and four RBIs. Aigles LF Raphael Gladu and DH Michael Suchy each scored four runs while RF Alberth Martinez and CF Parker Sniatynski both drove in four. In total, eight batters picked-up at least one hit for Trois-Rivieres.

Aigles starting pitcher Chris Murphy allowed four earned runs over five innings of work and grabbed the victory. Murphy had a pair of walks and eight hits while striking out seven batters.

For Rockland in the losing cause, leadoff hitter Ryne Birk had a 4-for-5 night with a run scored.

 

Sussex County 5, Empire League Grays 4 (8 Innings/Game 1) – Box Score

Sussex County scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 4-3 deficit and beat the Empire League Grays in walk-off fashion, 5-4.

The Miners led off the bottom of the eighth inning with LF Jose Brizuela starting at second base. The next batter, 3B Jarred Mederos, hit a sacrifice bunt that the pitcher fielded and threw away at first base, allowing Brizuela to score and tie the contest at 4-4.  With Mederos now at second due to the throwing error, DH Nate Coronado stepped to the plate and collected a base hit that scored Mederos and gave Sussex County the win.

Coronado went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks while CF/RF Noah Cummings doubled and scored a run.

Miners pitcher Jose Jose threw an inning of relief and picked up the victory. The southpaw allowed unearned run and struck out two in the three batters he faced. Jose is now 4-1 on the season.

 

Sussex County 8, Empire League Grays 3 (7 Innings/Game 2) – Box Score

Sussex County completed another doubleheader sweep of the Empire League Grays as they won game two of the twinbill by the final of 8-3. After a scoreless inning of action, the Miners plated seven runs over the next three innings and rolled from there to the win.

Four batters had multi-hit games for Sussex County, including DH Audy Ciriaco who went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Miners 3B Jarred Mederos had two hits in three at-bats along with a run and two RBIs while RF Noah Cummings launched a home run and went 2-for-4. Sussex County collected 11 hits in the contest.

Aigles starting pitcher Andrew Gist threw five shutout innings and notched the victory. The lefty allowed six hits while fanning seven batters in the 76-pitch performance. With the win, Gist is now 4-0 on the season.

Third baseman Daniel Dominguez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the loss for the Empire League Grays.

 

New Jersey 12, Quebec 8 – Box Score

New Jersey tallied six runs in the first inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead and would coast from there to a 12-8 victory over Quebec.

The Jackals banged out 15 hits as a team with all nine batters in the lineup collecting at least one. New Jersey CF Alfredo Marte had a monster game going 2-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs. Jackals 1B Isaac Wenrich scored two runs and drove in three in a 2-for-4 night while SS Santiago Chirino added a pair of hits in three at-bats along with two runs and an RBI. Five batters had multi-hit outings for New Jersey.

Jackals starter Brendan Butler gave up four earned runs over five innings of work and picked-up the victory. The 26-year-old allowed a walk and seven hits to go along with seven strikeouts. Butler is now 2-1 on the year.

 

Ottawa 5, Shikoku Island 2 – Box Score

Ottawa won their third consecutive contest as they defeated Shikoku Island by the final of 5-2. The Champions rolled out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play and would go on from there to pick-up the big win.

Center fielder Steve Brown led the way offensively for Ottawa going 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Champions 2B Maikol Gonzalez had a two-hit night along with scoring a run while DH Leonardo Reginatto added two hits and two RBIs. Shortstop Malik Collymore also chipped in a hit in four at-bats to go with two runs for Ottawa.

Champions Jared Mortensen tossed seven strong innings and earned his third win of the season. Mortensen gave up an earned run on five hits to go with eight strikeouts.
