AIGLES DEFEAT CHAMPIONS TO COMPLETE FOUR-GAME SWEEP

JULY 15 LEAGUE RECAP

 

Trois-Rivieres 6, Ottawa 1 – Box Score

Trois-Rivieres finished off the four-game sweep of Ottawa as they defeated the Champions by the score of 6-1. The Aigles have now won six straight and moved into sole possession of third place in the Can-Am League.

The offensive was solid today for Trois-Rivieres as they pounded out 14 hits with five batters having multi-hit games. Third baseman David Glaude (pictured) went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs while LF Javier Herrera had three hits in five at-bats along with a run scored and an RBI. Catcher Alex Herceg, 1B Kevin Cornelius and SS Sam Dexter all chipped in a pair of hits for the Aigles.

Trois-Rivieres starting pitcher Kevin McNorton tossed seven solid innings in notching his fifth win of the season. McNorton allowed an unearned run on seven hits and struck out seven batters.

For Ottawa in defeat, CF Chase Harris went 2-for-3 and scored the team’s lone run.

 

Quebec 8, Rockland 4 – Box Score

The Quebec Capitales jumped out to a 6-2 lead after three innings of play and would cruise from there to an 8-4 victory over the Rockland Boulders. With the victory, Quebec took three of four in the series and now stand only one game behind Sussex County in the league standings.

The Capitales collected 13 hits as a team and was led by the 5-6 hitters of 1B Brad Antchak and CF Nick Van Stratten. The duo combined to go 5-for-9 at the plate with two doubles (Antchak), four runs scored and three RBIs. Third baseman Lachlan Fontaine also helped the Quebec offense by contributing a pair of hits and two runs batted in.

Capitales pitcher Will Dennis threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick-up his second victory of the year. Dennis struck out two in the four batters that he faced.

For Rockland in the losing effort, 1B Conrad Gregor went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

 

New Jersey at Sussex County (Postponed – Rain)

The game between New Jersey and Sussex County was postponed due to rain. It will be made up at a later date.
