Rockland 7, Trois-Rivieres 5 – Box Score
Rockland completed the three-game sweep of Trois-Rivieres as they defeated the Aigles by a 7-5 score. The Boulders scored four runs in the sixth inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit to win their fourth consecutive game. Rockland CF Mike Montville (pictured) led the way at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Boulders C Kevin Krause scored a pair of runs and drove in one in a 2-for-4 night while 1B Mikael Mogues chipped in a hit in three at-bats and collected two RBI. Montville, Krause and Mogues all hit home runs in the contest for Rockland.
Boulders starting pitcher Ryan Deemes allowed three earned runs over six innings of work and picked-up his second win of the year. Deemes gave up two walks and seven hits to go with nine strikeouts.
For Trois-Rivieres in the losing effort, leadoff hitter Alexi Colon went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Quebec 5, Ottawa 2 – Box Score
Quebec rolled out to a 5-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings of play and cruised from there to a 5-2 win over Ottawa. The Capitales jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a two-run home run from CF Kalian Sams. The Champions would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the frame as 2B Steve Nyisztor hit a solo blast of his own. Quebec then put the game away for good in the third as they plated three runs off RBI singles from Sams and 2B Maxx Tissenbaum and an error by Ottawa LF Coco Johnson. The Champions added a run in the ninth but that is all as the Capitales won going away.
Sams led the way at the plate for Quebec going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Capitales 3B Josh Vitters and SS Yordan Manduley each had a pair of hits with Vitters driving in a run and Manduley scoring one.
Quebec starter Lazaro Blanco tossed six solid innings to notch the victory. Blanco allowed an earned run on four hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts. The righty is now 2-1 on the season.
New Jersey 3, Sussex County 0 (Game 2) – Box Score
Starting pitcher Yasmani Hernandez and three relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as New Jersey completed the doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 victory over Sussex County. Hernandez went the first 7 1/3 innings allowing the three hits and four walks while striking out two in 107 pitches. The bullpen trio of Nate Gercken, Jose Velez and Vic Black finished off rest of the contest by giving up only a pair of walks. Hernandez notched his first victory of the season while Black earned his first save.
Offensively for the Jackals, LF Connor Hofmann, 3B Seth Spivey and RF Gerald Bautista each went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Second baseman Rony Cabrera and C Kevin Torres both drove in a run for New Jersey.
