BOULDERS’ MONTVILLE HITS SEVEN HOMERS EN ROUTE TO PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Rockland Boulders OF Mike Montville (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 19.

Montville went 9-for-24 (.375) at the plate this week, but a whopping seven of his nine hits were home runs. He drove in 13 runs for the Boulders this week in helping the club to four wins.

His week began with a Tuesday doubleheader against the New Jersey Jackals, and was 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored in a 13-10 win in a game one slugfest. Montville drew a walk in a hitless game two as New Jersey salvaged a split of the twinbill. Montville hit another long ball on Wednesday night in the series finale against the Jackals, part of a two-hit night in which he scored two runs.

On Thursday, Rockland opened a home series against the Ottawa Champions, and Montville’s bat stayed hot. He hit another two home runs in the series opener, driving in four of Rockland’s six runs. The Boulders got back into the win column on Friday, taking a 2-1 triumph that featured a sacrifice fly from Montville. Rockland kept winning on Saturday and Sunday, as home runs from Montville fueled 5-0 and 3-2 wins, respectively. After driving in two runs Saturday, Montville came up with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning on Sunday. He connected on his seventh home run of the week to walk off the Champions and give the Boulders the series win.

On the season, Montville is hitting .226 with 16 doubles, 21 home runs and 59 RBI. His home run total ranks second in the Can-Am League and his RBI total ranks third.

2018 marks Montville’s third season of professional baseball and third with the Boulders. He hit .238 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 2017. In his debut season in 2016, Montville notched 15 doubles, 11 home runs and 48 RBI while hitting .251.

The Boulders will enjoy an off day on Monday before opening a road series at the Sussex County Miners on Tuesday with a 5:05 p.m. doubleheader. The games, like all in the Can-Am League, can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
