DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Quebec Capitales RHP Wendell Floranus (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 19.

The Willemstad, Curacao native made a pair of starts last week for the Capitales. He first took the mound on Tuesday to face the Trois-Rivieres Aigles on the road, and struck out five Aigles in a 4.2-inning stint. Floranus allowed two runs on five hits, taking a no-decision in a 5-3 Quebec win. He retuned to the bump on Sunday to face the New Jersey Jackals on the road, and dazzled in six shutout innings. Floranus worked around six hits and a walk to keep the Jackals off the scoreboard, striking out six hitters in the process. Quebec cruised to a 7-0 win.

Over his five starts since joining the Capitales in July, Floranus is 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA. He has struck out 29 and walked only 10 in 28.2 innings of work.

2018 marks Floranus’ first campaign in the Can-Am League. Previously in his career, he spent 2016 with the Vallejo Admirals of the Pacific Association, and was a member of the Baltimore Orioles organization from 2012-2015. He spent 2012 and 2013 as a starting pitcher with the Dominican Summer League Orioles before converting to a reliever and working in that role in 2014 and 2015 in the Dominican Summer League and Gulf Coast League.

The Capitales will open a home series with the Ottawa Champions tonight at 7:05 p.m. The game, like all in the Can-Am League, can be seen live and for free at
