Ottawa 3, New Jersey 2 – Box Score
Second baseman Maikol Gonzalez was the hero for Ottawa tonight as his single brought home two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Champions a 3-2 walk-off win over New Jersey. The Jackals had just scored a run in the top frame to take a 2-1 lead but could not finish off the contest as Ottawa notched their first win of the season.
Gonzalez had two hits in five at-bats along with the two RBI while DH Leonardo Reginatto was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Champions reliever Austin Glorius, despite giving up the run in the top of the ninth, picked up the victory. Along with the run, Glorius allowed a walk and two hits and struck out two batters.
Second baseman Andrew Dundon went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss for the Jackals.
Quebec 11, Trois-Rivieres 10 – Box Score
In a wild affair at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec picked up their first victory of the season as they outlasted the Aigles by the score of 11-10. Both teams were very solid offensively this afternoon as they combined for 25 hits, which included four home runs and eight doubles.
The Capitales were led at the plate by SS TJ White as he went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI. Center fielder Tyson Gillies had two hits in four at-bats along with a pair of runs and two RBI while C Brandon Brosher collected two doubles and drove in a pair of runs.
Quebec pitcher Justin Kortessis tossed two scoreless innings of relief and picked up the win. Kortessis gave up a hit and a walk in the eight batters that he faced.
For Trois-Rivieres, RF Tucker Nathans had a 2-for-5 day with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.
Sussex County 3, Rockland 2 – Box Score
Center fielder Brandon Downes scored the go-ahead run off an error by 2B Ryne Birk in the eighth inning as Sussex County defeated Rockland, 3-2.
Downes led off the inning and reached base via a walk by Boulders reliever James Mulry. With a 1-2 count to the next batter, DH Nick Zaharion, Downes stole second base and advanced to third on an error by C Adam Ehrlich. Catcher Troy Dixon then stepped to the plate and reached base via the error by Birk with Downes coming home with the big run.
Miners 1B Audy Ciriaco had a 3-for-4 night with a double while 3B Jose Brizuela added a solo home run.
Sussex County reliever Kevin Grendell tossed two scoreless innings and notched the victory. Grendell fanned five of the six batters that he faced.
For Rockland in defeat, LF Grant Heyman went 1-for-4 with two RBI. The Boulders only had two hits in the game.
