DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Sussex County Miners INF Connor Crane (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 8.
Crane hit .391 (9-for-23) this week, and added a triple, four RBI, two stolen bases, and six runs scored to his line.
The Parker, Colo. resident began his week on Monday against the New Jersey Jackals at home. In a 5-3 Sussex County win, Crane was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The Miners won again on Tuesday, taking a 6-4 decision behind a hit, stolen base, and run scored from Crane. Sussex County completed a series sweep on Independence Day by winning 4-1 at Skylands Stadium. In the Wednesday game, Crane had a hit and was hit by a pitch.
Crane’s only hitless game of the week occurred on Friday in a Sussex County loss to the Quebec Capitales. Quebec wrapped up a series win on Saturday with an 8-7 nail-biting win, but Crane was 2-for-4 with a triple, walk, RBI and two runs scored in his team’s loss. The Miners salvaged the finale on Sunday, rolling to a 9-2 behind another two-hit day from Crane. He drove in a run, drew a walk, and scored twice in the win.
In just 13 games with Sussex County since his June 21 acquisition, Crane is hitting .289 (13-for-45) with a double, triple, home run, and five RBI. Crane has drawn two walks and stolen two bases in a Miners uniform. He began his season with the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League, hitting .244 in 32 games.
Crane’s current role with Sussex County marks his second tenure in the Can-Am League, as he spent the entirety of the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Crane hit .254 with 16 doubles, a triple, 11 home runs, and 55 RBI in 94 games last season, and recorded a .286 average in 71 games in 2016, posting 15 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 33 RBI. Prior to arriving in independent baseball, Crane played at McNeese State University.
