Thornhill, Ontario – The Trois-Rivières Aigles swept the Can-Am League’s June 3-9 weekly awards, with 1B/C Joe Deluca named Batter of the Week and RHP Kevin McNorton earning Pitcher of the Week honors, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician. The Aigles went 4-2 on the week, including a three-game sweep of the New Jersey Jackals Tuesday through Thursday.
Deluca, 23, appeared in all six games and went 10-for-18 (.476) with a 1.143 slugging percentage, belting four home runs and driving in 11. Most notably, on Saturday, June 8, he was 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI in a 13-7 loss to Ottawa, while on Tuesday, June 4, he went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in a 12-3 win over New Jersey.
Currently, the Cicero, N.Y., native is tied with teammate Taylor Brennan for the league lead with five home runs to go along with a .277 average and a team-high 17 RBI. He is in his third professional season, having spent the 2017 and 2018 campaigns in the American Association and Frontier League following a college career at the College of St. Rose (N.Y.).
Meanwhile, McNorton was masterful in his only appearance of the week on Thursday, June 6, hurling six shutout innings, fanning seven and earning the win as the Aigles defeated the Jackals, 4-2. On the season, the native of Columbiana, Ala., is 2-2 with a 4.08 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched.
The 27-year-old is in his third season with the Aigles, going 8-4 and leading the league with 128.1 innings pitched and 20 starts in 2018. He had previously spent parts of four seasons in the Frontier League after pitching collegiately at the University of Tampa (Fla.).
This week, Trois-Rivières, currently in fifth place with a 9-15 record, will face Rockland at home Tuesday through Thursday before traveling to Québec for a three-game weekend series.
