DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Trois-Rivieres Aigles RHP Ethan Elias (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending September 3.

Elias made three appearances this extended week, including an impressive 11-strikeout effort on Thursday night. He took the mound Monday, August 27 against the Rockland Boulders and worked an inning in relief in the Aigles’ 6-1 defeat, but quickly bounced back Thursday night in the series finale against the Boulders. Elias twirled 7.1 strong innings in the contest, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk, and striking out 11 Boulders hitters. He earned the victory in the game, which Trois-Rivieres won 5-1. To cap off his regular season, Elias worked two relief innings on Sunday in the Aigles’ contest at the Sussex County Miners. He did not allow a run or hit in the performance, only working around a walk. His efforts helped to bridge the gap from starter Kevin McNorton to closer Angel Rincon in a 5-4 Trois-Rivieres win.

Elias concludes his regular season at 4-9 with a 4.02 ERA. Over his 29 appearances, 12 of which came in the starting role, he struck out 87 in 107.1 innings while walking only 39.

2018 marks Elias’ second campaign with the Aigles. The Evansburg, Alberta, Canada resident appeared in nine games (eight starts) in 2017 with Trois-Rivieres, posting a 1-1 record and 4.82 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. He also spent part of 2017 with the Rockland Boulders, posting an 0-1 record and 3.10 ERA in 23 games. Prior to joining the Can-Am League, Elias spent four seasons in the affiliated ranks with a brief stopover in the Frontier League. The Chicago Cubs drafted Elias in the 22nd round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft out of Grand Trunk High School in Evansburg, and he debuted professionally with the Arizona League Cubs in 2012. Elias returned to the Arizona League in 2013, and also made six appearances with the Short Season Class A Boise Hawks of the Northwest League.

Elias spent 2014 with the Frontier League’s Normal CornBelters, posting a 1-2 record and 4.47 ERA in 19 appearances, good enough to earn him an opportunity with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015. Elias was a career-best 11-6 with a 3.19 ERA for the Class A Kane County Cougars of the Midwest League in 2015, making 24 appearances (20 starts). Elias returned to the Diamondbacks system in 2016, splitting the campaign between the Class A Advanced Visalia Rawhide of the California League, the Short Season Class A Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League, and the Arizona League Diamondbacks.

Elias and the Aigles will enjoy an off day Tuesday before opening their Can-Am League playoff series on Wednesday against the Sussex County Miners. Game 1, which the Aigles will host, begins at 7:05 p.m. The entire series can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
