DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Trois-Rivieres Aigles LHP Jacob Evans (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 26.

Evans racked up 19 strikeouts over 13.2 innings in a pair of starts for the Aigles this week. He first took the hill on Tuesday to face the New Jersey Jackals on the road, fanning nine opposing hitters and walking just one over six innings of work. Evans surrendered three runs in the outing, and was a tough-luck loser in a pitcher’s duel, as New Jersey won 3-1. Evans and the Aigles would both return to the winner’s column on Sunday, when the Broken Arrow, Okla. native dominated the Ottawa Champions on the road. Over 7.2 shutout innings, Evans scattered four hits and three walks, and struck out 10 Ottawa hitters. Trois-Rivieres cruised to a 4-0 win the contest.

On the season, Evans is now 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA in five appearances, four of which have come in a starting role. He has struck out 37 and walked only eight in 31.2 innings.

Prior to joining Trois-Rivieres in early August, Evans spent parts of four seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. A 6th-round pick of the Cardinals out of the University of Oklahoma in 2015, Evans debuted with the Short Season Class A State College (Pa.) Spikes of the New York-Penn League, holding a 4-3 record and 3.08 ERA over 16 appearances and 49.2 IP. He then made 16 appearances, all starts, for the Class A Advanced Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinals of the Florida State League in 2016. Evans returned to Palm Beach in 2017, working exclusively in relief in 16 appearances, and also made 14 relief appearances with the Class AA Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals in the Texas League. Evans continued his tenure with Springfield in 2018, making 29 appearances (two starts) prior to joining Trois-Rivieres.

The Aigles, who hold a four-game advantage for the final playoff spot in the Can-Am League, will open a series at home against the Rockland Boulders tonight at 7:05 p.m. The game, like all in the Can-Am League, can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
