Durham, N.C. — After a superb start Sunday, Rockland Boulders LHP Garrett Johnson is the Can-Am League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 23-29, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician. The 30-year-old was the winning pitcher in Rockland’s 4-0 victory at New Jersey, throwing seven shutout innings while allowing just four singles, walking none and striking out nine. The victory capped off a 3-1 July for Johnson in which he fanned 31 hitters in 24.2 innings of work.

On the season, the Stillwater, Okla., native is 5-2 with a 4.53 ERA and one save, making 15 appearances, nine of them starts. His 65 strikeouts are third-most in the league, while his five victories tie him for the team lead.

The 2018 season marks a return to the Can-Am League for the 6’10” Johnson after four seasons out of the pro game. Previously, he pitched out of the bullpen for the Boulders in 2012 and 2013; his 47 appearances in 2012 are tied for most in Rockland history and fourth-most in league history. Prior to the Boulders, Johnson spent five seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization, reaching as high as Triple-A. He was a 29th-round choice by the White Sox out of high school in the 2006 draft.

Johnson’s selection is the third Pitcher of the Week honor for Rockland this season; teammate RHP David Palladino earned the honors for the weeks concluding June 24 and July 15.

Overall, the Boulders went 4-2 on the week and have won seven of their last ten games to improve their record to 36-31. The team, which now trails Quebec by one-half game for the second playoff spot, will enjoy an off day Monday before starting an important three-game series Tuesday at Quebec.
