DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Ottawa Champions RHP Jordan Kurokawa (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 10.
Kurokawa tossed a complete-game shutout against the Salina Stockade in his lone start of the week, scattering three hits and a walk over his nine innings of work on Saturday in Ottawa. The Honolulu resident struck out seven Stockade hitters as his Champions earned a 13-0 win.
The first-year member of the Champions is now 1-2 with a 3.73 ERA over his four starts. He owns 18 strikeouts to just two walks in 21.2 innings of work.
Kurokawa is in the midst of his first season in the Can-Am League, but second in independent baseball. He logged a 7-4 record and 2.53 ERA in 2017, pitching for the Frontier League’s Lake Erie Crushers. Kurokawa struck out 79 opposing hitters in 2017 over 117.1 innings. In 2016, Kurokawa was a 28th round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in the Major League Baseball Draft. He appeared in 13 games with the 2016 Gulf Coast League Phillies, where he struck out 19 in 19.1 innings. Prior to joining the professional ranks, Kurokawa played collegiately at the University of Hawaii-Hilo.
The Champions will enjoy an off day Monday before opening a road series at the Quebec Capitales on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. That game, like all in the Can-Am League, can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
