Thornhill, Ontario — Throwing eight shutout innings against the Can-Am League’s top offense on Friday, Ottawa Champions RHP Jordan Kurokawa is Pitcher of the Week, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician.

Kurokawa limited Sussex County to three singles in his team’s 7-1 victory, fanning six while walking just one. The Honolulu native threw a mere 81 pitches over his eight innings of work.

The league’s Pitcher of the Month for both June and July, Kurokawa has been brilliant for Ottawa this season, and is currently leading the league with a 1.69 ERA, tied for first with nine victories and tied for fourth with 66 strikeouts. He also earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending June 10.

Kurokawa is in his first season with Ottawa after spending 2017 with Lake Erie of the Frontier League, where he finished second in the league with a 2.53 ERA to go along with a 7-4 record. In 2016, his first professional season, he pitched in 13 games with the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Phillies. Kurokawa was originally chosen by Philadelphia in the 28th round of the 2016 draft out of the University of Hawaii-Hilo.

The resurgent Champions, who have gone 9-4 in their last 13 games to work their way back into the playoff race, begin an important series Tuesday at New Jersey.
