New Jersey 5, Ottawa 0 – Box Score

Starting pitcher Eduar Lopez (pictured) threw the eighth no-hitter in Can-Am League history tonight as New Jersey shutout Ottawa, 5-0. This is the first no-no since June 14, 2015 when Jamie Walczak of Sussex County accomplished the feat.

Lopez, in just his second outing with the Jackals, gave up only a walk and a wild pitch while striking out four in a 90-pitch performance (59 for strikes). The righty faced 28 total batters and allowed his first base runner of the contest in the seventh inning (one-out walk to SS Daniel Bick). Lopez is now 1-1 on the year.

Offensively for the Jackals, C Kevin Torres led the way going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. New Jersey LF Connor Hofmann and DH John Ruettiger each had 2-for-4 nights with Hofmann scoring a run and Ruettiger driving in one.

Trois-Rivieres 6, Sussex County 5 – Box Score

Trois-Rivieres scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead and would off a late Sussex County rally to win by a 6-5 score.

The Aigles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an error by Miners SS Mikey Reynolds. Sussex County came back to tie the contest at 1-1 in the fifth as C Luis Alen scored on a wild pitch by Trois-Rivieres starting pitcher Chris Murphy. The tie was quickly broken in the home half of the inning as the Aigles scored five runs via a balk, a sacrifice fly and two run producing singles by RF Alberth Martinez and C Anthony Hermelyn. The Miners would score four runs over the final three innings but come up one short.

Trois-Rivieres LF Javier Herrera went 3-for-5 with a run scored while Martinez collected two hits in four at-bats along with a run and two RBIs.

Murphy tossed 7 2/3 innings and notched his eighth win of the season. The righty allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out two batters.

For Sussex County, Alen went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
