MINERS’ RIGHTY DUNCAN PITCHER OF THE WEEK FOR THIRD TIME

Thornhill, Ontario — Sussex County Miners RHP Frank Duncan is the Can-Am League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 29-August 4, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician.

Duncan was dazzling in his only outing of the week, a complete-game victory July 31 over Quebec in which he gave up one run on two hits while striking out 11 in a 3-1 Sussex County victory.

The San Francisco native, who also pitched a no-hitter June 13 against New Jersey, leads the league with six complete games and 95.2 innings pitched, is tied for the Can-Am lead with eight victories, is third with a 3.01 ERA and fourth with 81 strikeouts.

It marks the third time this season Duncan has been named Pitcher of the Week, also garnering the honors for the weeks of June 10-16 and July 1-7. He is the first Can-Am League hurler to earn Pitcher of the Week three or more times in a season since 2014, when Rockland LHP Sean Bierman was selected three times and New Jersey LHP Mike Antonini was selected four.

Duncan, 27, is in his first campaign in independent baseball after having spent the previous five seasons in the Pittsburgh, Arizona, Colorado and L.A. Dodgers organizations, reaching as high as Triple-A.
