DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Sussex County Miners RHP Andrew Vinson (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 22.
Vinson was dominant in his one start this week, logging seven shutout innings on Wednesday at home against the Rockland Boulders. He allowed just one hit in the outing, walking three and striking out four. The Flower Mound, Tex. native earned the win in the contest, as Sussex County cruised to a 4-0 triumph. Since the game was the opening game of a doubleheader, he was credited with a complete game shutout.
On the season, Vinson is now 6-2 with a 3.60 ERA. He has struck out 49 opposing hitters in 65 innings over 14 appearances (10 starts).
Vinson is in his first season in independent baseball after two seasons in the Los Angeles Angels organization. The Angels selected Vinson in the 10th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft out of Texas A&M University, and he split his 2016 season between Class A Burlington (Iowa) of the Midwest League and Rookie-level Orem of the Pioneer League. In 22 appearances, Vinson was 4-4 with a 3.65 ERA. Vinson returned to Burlington in 2017, making all 25 of his appearances in a starting role. He was 9-11 with a 4.58 ERA, and struck out 92 in 114 innings.
The Miners will open a road series at the Rockland Boulders tonight at 7:00 p.m. Like all Can-Am League contests, the game can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
