DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that Quebec Capitales INF Zach Wilson (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending September 3.

Wilson’s final seven games of the regular season yielded a .440 (11-for-25) average, and he added two doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI to his line.

The Long Beach, Calif. resident began his week on Tuesday, August 28 with a 1-for-3 performance that included a double, an RBI, two walks, and two runs scored in an 8-6 road win at the Ottawa Champions. He led the Capitales to another win on Wednesday in Ottawa, going 2-for-3 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly, a walk, and a run scored. Quebec won 10-6. The Capitales wrapped up a series sweep on Thursday. The game was tied at 2-2 in the sixth inning when Wilson connected on a three-run home run. The blast was his only hit of the night, but it was good enough to put Quebec ahead for good in a game they would go on to win 7-3.

On Friday, the Capitales opened their final series of the regular season, a four-game set at home against the New Jersey Jackals. Wilson posted an impressive 3-for-4 line on Friday, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in two runs, scored one, and also drew a walk in an 8-6 setback for Quebec. Wilson racked up another hit on Saturday, finishing 1-for-2 with two walks and two more RBI in a 6-4 defeat. Despite his lone hitless game of the week falling on Sunday, Wilson’s Capitales won 4-3. He quickly bounced back with a second three-hit game on the week on Monday, driving in two runs and scoring another in a narrow 6-5 defeat.

Wilson concludes his abbreviated (38 games) regular season stint with Quebec hitting .348 with 10 doubles, six home runs, and 32 RBI. Quebec marks Wilson’s first stop in the Can-Am League. He began his professional career as a 21st round selection of the New York Yankees in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft out of Arizona State University. That season, Wilson was assigned to the Short Season Class A Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League, but quickly moved up the Yankees’ organizational ladder to the Class A Advanced Tampa Yankees for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. His final season in the Yankees system came in 2014, when Wilson split the campaign between Tampa and the Class AA Trenton Thunder of the Eastern League.

Wilson’s professional journey then took him to the Atlantic League, where he suited up for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for three seasons from 2015-2017. He hit a career-best .291 in 2015, and set career highs in home runs (19) and RBI (70) in 2016. Prior to joining Quebec in 2018, Wilson played in 49 games with the Atlantic League’s York Revolution.

The Capitales will enjoy a Tuesday off day prior to opening their Can-Am League playoff run. The Capitales’ best-of-five series with the Rockland Boulders begins at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday from Palisades Credit Union Park in New York, and the entire series can be seen live and for free at
