New Jersey 5, Rockland 3 – Box Score
Third baseman Seth Spivey (pictured) capped off a four-run ninth inning rally with a three-run home run as New Jersey defeated Rockland in a walk-off, 5-3. The Jackals jumped out in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning as leadoff hitter Connor Hofmann came home on a wild pitch. The Boulders tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by LF Kevin Krause. Rockland would then add two more runs in the sixth on an RBI double by DH Conrad Gregor and a 1B Mikael Mogues single. The score would stay that way until the ninth when New Jersey plated four runs including the Spivey blast to win the game in dramatic fashion.
Spivey went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI while Hofmann added a pair of hits in four at-bats and plated a run. Jackals pitcher Evan DeLuca tossed a scoreless ninth inning to notch his first victory of the year. DeLuca allowed a hit in the three batters he faced.
Sussex County 18, Dominican Republic 2 – Box Score
It was all Sussex County in this contest as the Miners rolled out to a big early lead and cruised to an 18-2 victory over the Dominican Republic national team. Sussex County pounded out 15 hits in the game and scored in every inning except the fifth and eighth. Miners leadoff hitter Jayce Ray went 3-for-5 with a run scored and five RBI while 3B Martin Figueroa collected four hits in six at-bats, scored two runs and drove in three. Right fielder Breland Almadova and 2B Mikey Reynolds each plated three runs for Sussex County.
Miners starter Gianni Zayas tossed seven solid innings in picking-up the victory. Zayas gave up two earned runs on two hits with a pair of walks and 10 strikeouts. The righty is now 2-2 on the year.
Ottawa 13, Salina 0 – Box Score
The Ottawa Champions scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to blow open a close game and defeat the Salina Stockade by the score of 13-0. Ottawa banged out 15 hits in the contest and was led by the 3-4 batters of DH Sebastien Boucher and RF Steve Brown. The duo combined to go 6-for-8 at the plate with a home run (Brown), six runs scored and five RBI. Champions 1B Vincent Guglietti also added three hits in five at-bats and drove in three runs.
Ottawa starting pitcher Jordan Kurokawa tossed a complete game shutout en route to his first win of the season. Kurokawa allowed only three hits and a walk to go along with seven strikeouts.
For Salina, 3B Brian Luebcke and 2B Aaron Stubblefield each went 1-for-3 on the night.
Quebec 8, Trois-Rivieres 4 – Box Score
Quebec tallied five runs in the fifth inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit and beat Trois-Rivieres by an 8-4 score. The Capitales were led offensively by leadoff hitter Maxx Tissenbaum who went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and four RBI. Quebec LF James McOwen added three hits in five at-bats and drove in two runs while RF Stephen Gaylor scored a pair of runs in a 2-for-3 night. In total, the Capitales had 10 hits in the game.
Starting pitcher Karl Gelinas gave up three earned runs in 7 2/3 innings pitched to nab the win for Quebec. Gelinas allowed 10 hits and two walks to go along with six punchouts. The 35-year-old is now 3-2 on the season.
For the Aigles in the losing effort, LF Javier Herrera went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first inning.
